The word Speciality caught my eye, and stepping inside, I was immediately welcomed by a cosy atmosphere that radiated authenticity. What impressed me most was the staff’s knowledge and pride in what they serve. The coffee origins were clearly labelled, yet when I asked, they confidently explained the blend, showing genuine care for their craft. That passion translates directly into the cup. The preparation was flawless: a golden crema crowned the espresso, served on a beautifully designed wooden board with a side of water. This thoughtful detail reflects café traditions from Italy, Greece, and Turkey, where cleansing the palate is part of the ritual. It’s hospitality elevated. The blend itself, from Cast Iron Coffee Roasters, was distinctive: * 60% Brazil Fazenda Lages natural Rubi * 30% Ethiopian Bench Maji natural heirloom * 10% Sumatran Jagong semi-washed Bourbon The result? Notes of dark chocolate balanced with Ethiopian smoothness, milder than my usual preference, but rich in flavour and beautifully balanced. Even on a Sunday, the café was bustling, a clear sign of how much customers value the effort and authenticity here. Reading other reviews only confirmed my own impression: this is widely regarded as the best coffee in Newbury. ⭐ Verdict: 10/10 – Independent, Authentic, and Unmissable. “ Fantastic independent coffee shop in centre of Newbury. Great selection of cakes and the cappuccino was top notch. They even supply you with a glass of water with coffee as they do in Europe. The staff were kind and efficient & there was seating outside allowing you to watch the world go by. ”

“ Hands down the nicest place for coffee in Newbury. Cosy and super dog friendly - dog treats and blankets provided free of charge! I always recommend this as a good spot to dog owners. Coffee and pastries are delicious and the owners, Chris and Freya, are absolutely lovely. As previous reviews have stated, there isn’t a customer loo but I’ve never found this a problem given the coffee shop is conveniently situated in the town centre, with access to many loos. Always worth a visit, especially if you’ve got a puppy in tow! ”

Service is excellent, food is delicious (pain au raisin gets my thumbs up) and the coffee is delicious and served with a glass of water which may just be a tiny extra but is very appreciated. It’s a tiny space and no customer loos but there was seating space when we visited and there are plenty of other conveniences around. I’d like to keep this place as a little secret but it’s too nice not to share!!! Give the chains a miss next time you’re in Newbury and support a small business. ”

“ Excellent new coffee shop, probably the best coffee in Newbury now. Service is very good, swift, and courteous. It's modern decor inside with some tables outside so you should be OK for seats. Coffee is very good, I ordered the flat white which had a good taste but a couple elements could be improved. The milk texture could be a little firmer, taste is very good, but lacks aftertaste, I like the roll off aftertaste after drinking, and could do with more aroma. However, I'm sure they will continue to improve. There are no toilets here, smoothies, and hot chocolate were also very good. ”
